Self-efficacy in
security and freedom

Even though our training program is constantly growing, you will always find our core message in it: Children need good spaces! It is our central concern that children experience self-efficacy and grow up in an environment of security and freedom. This is reflected in our interior design.

Using practical examples, we show you scope for action in everyday educational practice and encourage you to reflect on and rethink spaces and processes in your facilities.

Get to know our content! Inspiration is available in the form of free webinars, intensive and in-depth webinars, individual online events, or in-house team training courses with various time slots. Of course, we will put together a topic and format that suits your questions and offer accompanying workshops and concept days on site to initiate new processes and strengthen educational work in the long term.

"Education meets space"

Pedagogy and space interact in many aspects of daycare centers, so ideally, spatial design and redesign should be accompanied by a pedagogical development process. For many years, we have been cooperating with Ressourcenwerkstatt, a continuing education provider for educational professionals.

For our joint webinar, we have chosen a topic that is very close to our hearts and those of the Ressourcenwerkstatt: open working is now a well-known and increasingly used concept in daycare centers. It is characterized by both spatial and educational considerations that are geared towards the needs of children and make them active participants in their own education and development process. Educational and teaching plans also generally focus on learning workshop activities and project-based work, which are closely linked to the concept. However, there are a number of other professional considerations behind this. We have therefore developed this webinar to give you a multi-perspective insight into the educational principles and spatial implementation options. Three sub-topics will be covered:

The first topic, "We know our way around here and feel comfortable," deals with the well-being of children and asks how this can be taken into account and ensured in open facilities.

The second topic, "Education and development in open work," deals with the question of what and how one can learn in open work and support children on their way to independence and co-determination.

The third topic, "First steps in open work," focuses on the beginnings of learning workshop work and provides answers on how educational and spatial adjustments can be made in the first steps of implementing the concept.

Duration: approx. 60 min. plus time for questions and discussion

Participation in the webinar is free of charge. Your registration does not entail any obligations.

Order and structure

Children have a great need to understand their environment and comprehend its inherent rules.
Educational spaces should cater to this need and assign things to logical places. This allows children to easily find their way around the rooms and act independently.

The in-depth webinar is aimed at educational professionals from nurseries, kindergartens, and after-school care centers, as well as anyone else who is interested. It builds on the webinars "Are young children different?" and "Children need good spaces" – but can also be booked independently.

This webinar highlights the importance of organizational structures, appropriate color schemes, and the choice of materials.

Together, we will examine the following questions:

Arrival and orientation – Is the internal logic of the building recognizable?
Qualities of the individual corners of the room. What do children need to feel comfortable and explore?
Presentation of materials: Where do things live?

The webinar is practical in nature and is intended as inspiration and support for integrating education and interior design into daily routines.

Schedule: Slide show approx. 1 hour, followed by approx. 30 minutes for individual questions and discussion.
Max. 30 participants.
Cost: $30 gross per registration.
Speaker: Dipl. Ing. (FH) Anja von Karstedt.

"Help, our rooms are too small!"

Rooms in daycare centers have to meet a lot of requirements at the same time to handle the different needs of kids: They should have lots of space for playing and also be cozy for eating. They should provide a wide range of stimulating materials for independent, exploratory learning, offer corners and niches for rest and retreat, provide plenty of space for building and constructing, offer space for movement, and much more. How can all this be integrated into the existing rooms and implemented with limited resources? We will address these questions with you in this seminar.

  • You will learn to analyze your own rooms.
  • You will reflect on your own requirements for rooms in relation to your teaching methods.
  • You will acquire basic knowledge about the effect of spaces on children and about potential spatial conflicts.
  • You will develop methods for creating more peaceful play areas in your rooms.

Flexible implementation:

  • As a one-day intensive training course
  • As a multi-day process support with opportunities for in-depth study
  • Individually tailored to your facility and needs

Invest in the quality of your rooms—without having to invest in new equipment. Together, we will create more space for child-friendly learning and development.

"Children need good spaces!"

Well-planned and well-designed daycare rooms can do a lot: they allow children to experience themselves as creators of their environment and to engage in creative activities. This enables them to experience self-efficacy and develop key skills such as relationship-building, decision-making, and creativity. Pedagogically meaningful architecture and interior design for children are therefore key issues for the further development of quality in childcare.

You will learn:

  • how you can better tailor your rooms to the needs of children and your everyday educational activities (inventory and analysis).
  • how interior design influences communication and relationships among users.
  • the important role that open-ended materials play.
  • how you can enhance your rooms pedagogically on a low budget and get the most out of the space.
  • how you can turn well-designed rooms into a calling card for your institution.

Flexible implementation:

  • As a one-day intensive training course
  • As a multi-day process support with opportunities for in-depth study
  • Individually tailored to your institution and needs

"Are young children different?"

How can we strengthen very young children's self-efficacy? Which activities promote the specific educational processes of children under the age of three? How can we design spaces that provide support while also encouraging exploration?

Understanding the interaction between room design and educational concepts offers great potential. Working with the youngest children challenges us to create rooms with a high functional density. At the same time, children need rooms with open functions so that they can take advantage of a wide range of opportunities for self-determined learning processes at different levels.

In this webinar, we provide practical examples from nurseries to give you ideas on how you can support your daily educational work through meaningful room design. We start with the abilities and needs of nursery children. We highlight the importance and challenges of mixed-age groups and show how a prepared environment forms the basis for self-determined play. Learn about the effect of colors and materials and explore with daycare space consultant Anja von Karstedt how a room can encourage the little ones to grasp, discover, and try things out.

Duration: approx. 60 min. plus time for questions and discussion

"On noise and learning"

How does noise arise in educational institutions and what effects does noise pollution have on children and staff? What does usage-oriented acoustics mean? Whether interacting with others, playing freely, or exploring their own experiences, children try things out, discover their abilities, and are loud in the process. But when does being loud become noise and thus a nuisance? The situational loudness of children's self-discovery is by no means the only cause of noise pollution in daycare centers. Noise is complex. But educational spaces only function well when mutual listening and understanding are possible.

In this webinar, our acoustics expert Udo Dünisch explains the scientific basics of acoustics and the special requirements for educational institutions (DIN 18041). Udo Dünisch shares his knowledge about absorbers and other topics, gives you practical insights into implementation, and looks forward to your questions on the subject.

"Interior design requires attitude"

Some daycare rooms offer little space for children to play, which hinders rather than supports educational work. Such unfavorable room design is often an unconscious expression of adults' attitudes and their image of children.

In this webinar, we highlight the interactions between attitude and room design in everyday educational practice and encourage participants to question their own image of children and the existing room design. We will discover what competent children do (and do not) need. We will take frequently expressed concerns and (perceived) expectations seriously and classify them. Practical examples will provide suggestions on how daycare rooms can be designed to meet children's needs. They will show which prepared environments offer children good conditions for independent activity and free play in everyday educational daycare. And we take an exemplary look at how aspects of room design influence the success of interactions. Ideally, you will take a new look at daycare rooms and their possibilities from the seminar and be able to take the first steps toward implementation in your facility.

"Children need good spaces"

How do daycare rooms meet the different needs of children? What kind of environment and space give children the necessary room to experience themselves as creators of their environment and to become creative? And what kind of space allows key skills such as creativity, interpersonal skills, and decision-making skills to grow? Daycare rooms and their design make an important contribution to a child's development. This makes educational architecture and pedagogically meaningful interior design for children exciting and important topics for the further development of quality in childcare.

In our free webinar, you will gain in-depth insights into child-friendly interior design. Kameleon managing director Gottfried Schilling will share his in-depth knowledge, expertise, and experience with you. In the subsequent open discussion, the team of experts will be available to you for further thoughts and suggestions.

Conference
Synergy solves space constraints

In cooperation with Ressourcenwerkstatt, Kameleon Raumkonzepte GmbH & Co KG is hosting a symposium in Bamberg on October 8, 2025.
This event is aimed at managers and decision-makers in the areas of schools, after-school care, and all-day schooling, as well as school, youth, and building authorities and representatives of public and private institutions.

With the gradual introduction of the legal right to all-day care for primary school children from 2026, schools, providers, and local authorities are facing profound structural and educational changes. The necessary expansion of capacity is not only a logistical challenge, but also requires conceptual clarity and close cooperation between all parties involved.

How can we create good educational spaces that are more than just extended school hours? Spaces that are child-friendly, flexible in use, and tailored to the needs of education, care, and recreation? These questions are particularly relevant to school administrators, educational teams, and local decision-makers, who share responsibility for the quality and design of all-day programs.
A key issue is the cooperation between teaching and extracurricular activities.

Successful all-day programs can only be achieved if educational professionals, teachers, and external partners work together on an equal footing and develop a shared understanding of education. Successful all-day schooling can only be achieved if educational professionals, teachers, and external partners work together as equals and develop a shared understanding of education.

The use of space must also be rethought: How can school buildings be opened up, used multifunctionally, and designed to be child-friendly? What spatial requirements does good all-day schooling need, and how can transitions between lessons and leisure time be made fluid?

This symposium offers space for exchange, inspiration, and practical examples. It is aimed at anyone who wants to play an active role in shaping all-day schooling—with responsibility, creative drive, and a shared view of our children's educational biographies.

Further information about the symposium and the two workshops, as well as registration details, can be found here.

"7 common misconceptions in interior design"

"The walls are deliberately painted white because the toys are so colorful and the hallway offers plenty of space for the Bobby Car race track."

We hear statements like this every day – unfortunately, they often refer to rooms that lack quality of stay. Regardless of the age structure of the children, whether in nurseries, daycare centers, after-school care centers, or schools: if needs and content are considered individually, they do not do justice to the children's living environment.

In this webinar, we explain how the selection of materials, the arrangement of furniture, and the use of colors can help turn educational spaces into a feel-good environment that conveys a sense of security and inspires voyages of discovery.

"Educational and spatial aspects of inclusion"

Inclusion means that every person, regardless of their individual needs and abilities, is given the same opportunities and possibilities.

This makes it a concept that affects us all and is relevant at all times, regardless of formal conditions such as the label of an "inclusive institution."

In order to achieve good inclusive care, a special pedagogical approach to the design of everyday interaction and the spatial design is therefore necessary.

What could be better than another collaborative webinar from Kameleon Raumkonzepte with Ressourcen Werkstatt?

Together, we will explore the questions of what inclusion encompasses, what aspects our educational perspective should include, and how we can design the facility in such a way that it is accessible and barrier-free for all children in a broad sense.

We also offer starting points for how you can address the topic in your daycare center.
The "Index for Inclusion" will be discussed, as well as considerations regarding "therapy rooms."

Interior design for after-school care and all-day schools

All people need spaces that welcome them, where they can find places to concentrate on an activity and that offer enough opportunities for interaction and communication.

In an ideal world, the space program for schoolchildren would be diverse and richly equipped with exciting materials and appropriate functional rooms. There would be plenty of space for different forms of teaching and individual workstations with different ergonomic options.

In reality, however, both money and square footage are often in short supply, the decision-making scope of those involved is limited, and a balancing act must constantly be performed between teaching units and attractive afternoon care.

In this webinar, we would like to present various possibilities for rethinking the design of a classroom and highlight educational functional areas such as movement, building, studio, and workshop rooms, which contribute to schoolchildren's creative and self-effective experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Duration: approx. 60 min. plus time for questions and discussion.
