Quick question:
What does Kameleon do?

We design spaces for children. To do this, we ask questions. Lots of questions. Because those who work with Kameleon aren’t usually looking primarily for furniture—but for answers.

Answers to why a long hallway suddenly becomes a racetrack. Why a platform sometimes inspires—and sometimes gets in the way of daily life. Or why a space looks coherent on paper yet still creates friction when actually used. Since 1995, we have been working with a growing multidisciplinary team to make precisely these connections visible and translate them into viable spatial solutions. In doing so, we are guided by a clear conviction: Design is attitude.

The Kameleon Principle

  • Step One: Understanding
    It all starts with listening.

We are a team of educators, architects, and designers who have been developing facilities for early childhood education for over 30 years.

That’s why we ask different questions:
+ What philosophy guides your work?
+ What image of the child does your team hold?
+ Where are the requirements that often remain invisible in everyday life?

This creates a shared understanding that serves as a solid foundation for all further decisions. Because spaces function in interaction with pedagogy, processes, and team structures—and it is precisely these interactions that we make visible.

  • Step Two: Design
    Understanding gives rise to structure.

Using this approach, we develop space layouts and cohesive workflows tailored to your needs—whether in existing facilities or new designs. We deliberately work independently of specific products. The result is a spatial solution that supports your educational work and consistently takes the children’s perspective into account.

We view the space as a “third educator,” with clear functional areas, orientation, and a high quality of stay. Our concepts combine educational suitability with functional clarity and economic feasibility.

  • Step Three: Designing
In the design, attitude becomes tangible.

We deliberately separate consulting and planning from specific product recommendations. This allows us to create a solid, product-neutral foundation that gives you the freedom to issue requests for proposals, compare options, and make decisions. This provides you with a reliable basis for further implementation.

Upon request, we can compile all necessary planning documents for you or prepare a suitablequote from our own production facilities.

Our promise to you is spaces that
+ inspire, empower, and foster development
+ noticeably reduce the workload of educational teams
+ are well-thought-out rather than unnecessarily complex
+ and are implemented responsibly within budget—including by deliberately omitting unnecessary elements.

“Immersing” oneself in new spaces

The conversion of an old villa with an indoor swimming pool into the B-Kids company crèche has created a building whose existing rooms now serve as real places of adventure for children.
