Room to grow

Working closely with the management of Taka-Tuka-Land e.V., Kameleon has spent several years developing spaces designed with the principles of open-ended play in mind: These spaces draw on typical everyday situations, provide guidance within the facility, and at the same time allow room for change, creating environments that children and staff can continually reclaim and bring to life with their own ideas.

The new building, designed as an extension of the existing structure, builds on the experience gained from the existing facility and takes it a step further. Based on this, Kameleon designed group rooms and auxiliary spaces for 50 preschoolers and 12 infants, each with its own distinct focus while remaining interconnected. The art studio serves as a shared space within the building and is used by all areas accordingly.

In the design of the spaces, solutions were found in certain areas that incorporate and extend the primary architecture: for example, the fixtures in the two small children’s dining areas feature windows at varying heights, while in the foyer, a stair landing offers views up to the second floor.

What sets this facility apart is the care with which materials, colors, and furnishings are coordinated to create an atmosphere that can be experienced with the senses and enriches the children’s daily lives.
