Cameleon platform landscape promotes motor skills

The article describes the innovative interior design of a preschool group at Stuttgart’s Wichtelpark. The “Rennraupen” group was given a newly designed space that actively supports the children’s development as a “third educator.”

At its heart is a multi-level platform landscape that extends up to 2.66 meters in height. The structure offers various climbing options, such as a wave-shaped climb covered with natural-fiber carpet, bridges, and a hanging basket with net tunnels. These elements promote motor development and encourage the children to test their limits.

The room is divided into different areas: a role-play corner with a counter, a cave for retreating, a bright building corner by the window, and zones for swinging and cuddling. The design focuses on natural materials such as wood, cork, and natural-fiber carpets, which enable diverse sensory experiences.

The TÜV-certified structure in light wood tones creates a calm atmosphere. Center director Felix Jung reports significant developmental progress: The children demonstrate improved body control and responsiveness. The space allows them to expand their skills through play.
